May 7 - Beartracks - Hometown Favorites
(April 14, 2010, Plattsburgh, NY) Hometown favorites “Beartracks” make tracks to Palmer Street Coffeehouse playing their roots, country and bluegrass music on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Plattsburgh’s favorite acoustic venue. Junior Barber returns, bringing his soulful resonator guitar work to this dynamic trio featuring the superb sibling singing of Tom Venne, and Julie Venne Hogan. Catch “Beartracks” as they hit the stage at #4 Palmer Street for what is sure to be a sold out show!
Tom and Julie are a brother and sister team who hail from the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York and have been singing and performing together for more than 30 years. Tom started out singing and playing guitar with his mother June, father Vic and brother, Roland. The family band performed under the stage name “Clem Hawkins”. Julie joined the band at the age of six and started playing bass shortly after. While Tom and Julie have performed in many bands over the years, they were eager to go back to their roots and play music that evokes memories of a simpler life and time.
Junior is one of the most respected resophonic guitar players in the country, having been nominated eight times by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) for “Dobro Player of the Year”. Junior has worked the bluegrass and acoustic music scene for many years as a freelance artist and has worked with numerous bands. The most recent group received the IBMA award for “Emerging Artist of the Year”. Junior has also worked on many recording projects as well as two of his own. His first project, “Stone Bottom Boogie”, was nominated for IBMA “Instrumental Project of the Year” and his second release, “Steffi’s Waltz,” was also nominated and is getting much airplay around the country and beyond. His stylistic approach to playing resonator guitar is masterful, soulful and unique.
“It’s traditional country and bluegrass music featuring the beautiful sibling harmony of Tommy and Julie and the masterful dobro artistry of one of the truly great players, Junior Barber. Spare, rootsy, and beautiful. It doesn’t get much better.” - Charles Stone, WIRY-AM, Plattsburgh NY.
“There seems to be magic when family members gather to make music. This family will not disappoint those seeking tight family harmony”. - Jeffrey Anzevino, The Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association.
